Amoxicillin

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic in the class of drugs called penicillins. It fights bacteria in your body by stopping its growth. Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infections such as: tonsillitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and infections of the skin.

Usages

Directions for Intake:

• Amoxicillin is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor
• Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better
• Take Amoxicillin at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night to keep the level in your blood high enough to treat your infection
• Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time
• In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

Directions for Storage:

• Store this medication in a place away from moist, light and extreme heat
• The appropriate temperature for the storage area is between 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit or 15 to 30 degrees Celsius
• Also choose a storage area that is not easily accessible to children

Side Effects

 

• Mild side effects include mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, white patches on the tongue (thrush/yeast infection), itching or discharge of the vagina (vaginal yeast infection), black, "hairy" tongue, and sore mouth or tongue
• Unlikely but serious side effects include seizures, severe watery diarrhea and abdominal cramps, and unusual bleeding or bruising

Warnings

Precautions:

• Consult your doctor before taking Amoxicillin. Make sure to give your doctor a complete background of your medical history
• Inform your physician of any previous experience of having liver disease or achlorhydria (decreased stomach acid production)
• The elderly may have high sensitivity to the side effects of this medication
• This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Activities that require you to be alert (i.e. driving or operating heavy machineries) should be avoided
• If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Amoxicillin
• If you are lactating, it may be harmful to use Amoxicillin
